150 years of history

Family Gélas Written its history in Gascogne since the half of the 13th century. But it was in 1865 that she linked her destiny to that of Armagnac. That year, Guillaume Gélas, cooper, gives up his business to his son Baptiste who created the Maison Gélas On the current premises of the company, in Vic-Fezensac. He began a development and trading activity in Armagnac. In 1910, his son Louis took over and acquired a vineyard, Château Martet in Manciet, still in the family fold. After the Second World War, his son Pierre developed the house by opening in 1950 the first house of trading in wines and spirits in Gers. It is his son Philippe who is today at the head of this emblematic house, assisted by his son Baptiste.

Double maturation

The range of Armagnacs of the Maison Gélas is extraordinary richness. It presents traditional brandies from 3 or 5 years old, vintage armagnacs from its beautiful and long history but also, and it is a rarity in the appellation, "double maturation". It is a double aging, first in an oak barrel in a traditional way, then in a second barrel having hosted sweet wines or mutated wines. This single Cask has been experiencing, for a few years now, a real success among fans of spirits.

Our favorite: 40 years of age

In the "Baptist cellar", making a choice among the dozens of Armagnacs offered is not easy. We fell for the 40th age of age. It is an assembly of brandy of Bas-Armagnac (the youngest of Armagnacs assembled at 40 years old) which is offered in an amber gold dress with orange reflections continuing on copper reflections . The nose releases aromas of tobacco, from licorice to apricot and chocolate notes. On the palate the attack is flexible and there are leather, tobacco notes to coffee, bitter orange and grilled hazelnut. A fine and particularly charming brandy that will delight all lovers of spirits.
